CLIMATE CREDENTIALS

2022

The Aurelia Label is purpose-driven, with a commitment to conduct business ethically and with compassion. We support the fashion industry’s overdue and much-needed transition from a model built on exploitation and greed, to a model built on respect and compassion.

Transparency

We map the supply chain of our swimwear, including the creation of the raw materials. Our fabric used is Carvico Vita, which is made of regenerated Nylon by ECONYL®. It is OekoTex certified, meaning the fabric is safe and meets the chemical standard. Carvico is one of the largest eco-friendly fabric companies, and since its inception in 2016 have extracted more than 188,500 kg of fishing nets and other waste from their oceans. They have achieved this with the involvement of 1250 fishers and fish farmers and 250 volunteer divers.

Additionally, we do our best to use responsible packaging. Packaging partners used include Hero Packaging and Sendle for our postage satchels, both of which are certified home compostable. We understand not everyone has the resources to compost at home and are looking for alternative packaging solutions. Our shipping labels are Avery products, which are FSC certified, and our thank you cards and brand hang tags are printed with Canva, a beyond net zero company.

Impact Reduction

Renewable Energy

At The Aurelia Label, we work with companies committed to the reduction of harmful fossil fuels in favour of renewable energy. The Carvico factory where our swimwear fabric is produced exclusively uses electricity derived from renewable sources. Additionally, our swimwear production factory is solar-powered, and our delivery provider is carbon-neutral.

Waste reduction

We reduce waste through our choice of swimwear fabric by saving fabrications that have been polluted or sent to landfill, including ghost fishing nets, carpet waste, plastic bottles, and other nylon waste. Additionally, our superior swimwear quality increases the product life, reducing the need to replace the product. Additionally, our packaging satchels are certified home compostable and zero waste. While our swimwear fabric is circular and designed to be easily recycled, Australia does not yet own the technology to effectively recycle apparel and textiles. We will work to advocate for this investment from the Australian Government so that we can minimise our extensive collective textile waste.

Responsible Packaging

We use bio-tech compostable solutions for our packaging through the use of Hero Packaging and Sendle postage satchels, both of which are certified home compostable and zero waste. Our paper material including our postage labels are FSC-certified, ensuring responsible forestry. Additionally, our postage boxes are a variety of FSC-certified and recycled content. Our packaging is completely plastic free.

Plastic Avoidance and Plan of Reduction

Our swimwear from the SS22/23 collection is made exclusively from recycled nylon waste. Additionally, our fabric tote bags are made of organic cotton. Our packaging is also completely plastic free.

Chemical Reduction

Our swimwear fabric is OekoTex certified, meaning it has been tested and cleared as meeting the chemical standard. The swimwear is also printed with eco-ink digital sublimation and is ECO PASSPORT certified by OEKO-TEX®.

Low Impact Materials

We use organic cotton for our tote bags, which are printed with AirInk, a non-toxic, ROHS-compliant, water-based screen-printing ink made from air pollution. We also make our candles from 100% soy wax. We use zero virgin plastics in our manufacturing and packaging. 100% of fabrics from our SS22/23 swim collection are made with recycled polyamide. We aim to use more natural low-impact materials such as hemp and bamboo in upcoming collections.

Circular Solutions

Our shipping packages have a second adhesive strip so that they can be reused again. After re-use, it is home compostable. In our previous collection, we used deadstock fabrics and upcycled our fabric scraps and offcuts, and patchworked them to create hats, face masks, and scrunchies. As we have changed manufacturers, we haven’t been able to continue this for our SS22/23 collection, but aim to re-introduce this initiative in upcoming collections. Additionally, our choice of swimwear fabric is designed to maximalise recycling potential.

Recycled Materials

Our swimwear fabric is Econyl-certified Carvico Vita Fabric printed with eco-ink. Both fabric and ink are certified by OEKO-TEX®.
